Toy Review – The Impulse E-Stimulator Dual Wand Rabbit Style Vibrator by California Exotics

 In Review, Dual-Stimulator, Vibrators

Henceforth known as “The Impulse” because that name is excessive and I won’t keep typing it.

I somehow went from never having tried a dual-stimulator ever to suddenly having THREE to review. How exciting. I want to preface this by admitting that I already had a pretty good hunch I was not going to like the Impulse because it’s an e-stim (electrical stimulation aka it shocks you) toy and I have historically not enjoyed e-stim play on my outsides. I’ve fiddled with violet wands and other e-stim stuff in the past because I had a friend who was super big into it and it was just always around. I’ve played as a top with other people who enjoyed it, but I personally derive no enjoyment from being shocked, and when playing with a body-contact toy that allows your own body to become the thing that conducts the shocks with the other person’s body, I found my hands going itchy and numb and while I can tolerate it for someone else’s pleasure, I really do not enjoy it.

So shocking my vagina? Almost certainly going to hate it. But I felt like I had to try because I’ve assumed I’d hate other stuff before and been wrong, and my vag is kinda weird and actually enjoys painful shit sometimes (usually when I’m on my period – which I haven’t had in years – but who ever really knows with that thing.)

It turns out that my initial hunch was 100% correct and I HATE internal e-stim…so much…so so much.

The Impulse has two functions – the e-stim and the vibration – and thankfully they operate separate from each other so I could try them by themselves and then ease into the shocky part. I first tested the e-stim in my hand just to see what kind of torture I was in for, and even as someone whose done e-stim play before specifically with their hands, I did not feel confident in putting the toy inside of me even on the lowest setting. But I still did…because science I guess.

The Impulse’s e-stim function operates with a metal plate on the top and bottom of the insertable part of the toy. I could go into a big explanation of how all kinds of e-stim toys work, but I don’t even like them and this is not a positive review so I feel like there are better resources out there than me if you’re interested in trying this stuff and want to know how it works. For now let me just tell you that the shocky function on the Impulse doesn’t work if your skin is not in contact with both plates at the same time, and the more skin contact it has the more intense the shock (two fingers vs wrapping your hand – or perhaps your whole vagina – around it feels very different, for example.)

I started by turning on the vibration function (which I’ll get into in a minute) to warm up to the shocky part. Even after several minutes I was still extremely hesitant to turn the e-stim on. Once I tried it in my hand I had to talk myself into vaginally testing it at all. I was not looking forward to any of this. But I did it, and immediately regretted it. I was hoping that perhaps the pulses of electricity that were felt when I wrapped my hand around the Impulse’s electric plates would replicate the vibrational pulses that I really really like on my G-spot from other toys. Instead my vagina felt like it was cramping. My muscles didn’t bear down like they do with uterine cramps, but there was a continuous tight and heavy pain inside of me exactly where the plates were in contact with my vaginal walls. I didn’t have the courage to turn up the intensity – we quit the e-stim part of this experiment on level 1. Of all the people I’ve met who have tried e-stim, very few have “meh” feelings about it. For the most part, electrocuting yourself is a very polarizing activity – you love it or you despise it. I am very much in the latter camp.

But shock my junk isn’t the only thing this toy could do. On the vibration front, I felt two things.

First – the vibrations sucked. On the first level I thought the toy might have some surprise potential, but it immediately gets way too buzzy in both the G-spot and clit arm when you turn it up. Buzzy doesn’t get me anywhere besides frustrated, so as just a vibrator, the Impulse is a total bust for me. The only thing going for it is that it’s pretty quiet…maybe that’s because it has no oomph.

But secondly! – this was the first dual-stim / “rabbit style” toy I’ve ever tried, and I don’t hate the concept? I put them off for so long because I again assumed I would not like them. I thought for sure that they’d all be super uncomfortable, the necessary parts wouldn’t fit my body correctly, I didn’t know how bendy some of them are, yadda yadda yadda. This is one instance where my previously-held assumptions misled me. I actually – were it strong enough, COULD – like the Impulse as just a dual-stim vibrator. The shaft of the insertable part and the clitoral stimulator are semi-flexible which let me adjust the fit, and everything about it seemed to hold a lot of promise. It just didn’t deliver…

Overall I absolutely hated the Impulse as an e-stim toy for someone who hates e-stim, and I feel very bad about it as a plain vibrator. On the upside, this is the exact outcome I expected so…at least it was predictable?

Big thanks to SheVibe for sending me the Impulse to review. If you like e-stim and thus might actually enjoy this toy, you can buy your own by clicking Here.
